We’re delighted to announce that Victoria Lane Primary School in Bishop Auckland has become one of the latest schools to benefit from the UK Government’s EV Infrastructure Grant for state-funded education sites, with the successful installation of two dual-socket fast EV charge points — delivered by the EV Smart team.
This allows up to four vehicles to charge at the same time, supporting staff, visitors, and the growing demand for electric vehicle infrastructure within the school community.
🌱 Supporting Net Zero Goals in Education
Schools play a vital role in the UK’s transition to a low-carbon future — not just through their operations, but also by inspiring the next generation. By installing EV charge points, Victoria Lane is helping to:
Reduce transport-related emissions
Encourage sustainable travel choices
Lead by example for pupils, parents, and the wider community
EV infrastructure also aligns with the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, which encourages schools to embed sustainability in everyday operations and planning.
💷 Government-Funded and Fully Managed
Through the government’s grant scheme, the school was able to complete this project with minimal cost. EV Smart managed the full process from start to finish — including:
Site survey and technical design
DNO coordination and installation
Software setup, signage, and handover
Ongoing maintenance and remote support
The installed chargers are integrated into our smart platform and will help the school generate income from its car park outside of school hours, supporting future investment.
