We’re proud to announce that Hawthorn Primary School in Newcastle has successfully installed two single-socket fast EV charge points, providing charging for up to two electric vehicles simultaneously. The installation was delivered by EV Smart and supported by the UK Government’s EV Infrastructure Grant for state-funded schools.
This is part of a growing movement among schools to support more sustainable travel options and futureproof their sites for the UK’s shift to electric vehicles.
🌱 Supporting Cleaner Transport and Climate Education
By installing EV charging infrastructure, Hawthorn Primary is actively contributing to national Net Zero goals while also reinforcing environmental awareness within its school community.
The new chargers help the school:
Reduce emissions linked to staff and visitor transport
Set a positive example for pupils and parents
Encourage low-emission vehicle use among school staff
Support the Department for Education’s sustainability agenda
Sustainability isn’t just about education in the classroom — it’s about real-world action, and Hawthorn is leading by example.
🔧 Delivered by EV Smart, Backed by Grant Funding
EV Smart managed the installation end-to-end, including:
2 x Single-Socket Fast EV Charge Points
DNO coordination, civil and electrical works
Smart back-office integration with monitoring and reporting
Ongoing technical support and maintenance
With the help of the government grant, the school was able to implement the project with minimal cost, turning a forward-thinking idea into practical on-site infrastructure.
